Dear Parents & Carers,
What an exciting week it has been. Peter Shilton, England’s most capped player, visited the school on Monday.
Peter hosted two assemblies, spent some time in the children’s PE lessons and demonstrated how
to perform a number of key football skills. There was a positive atmosphere around the school and I was particularly impressed with both the children and staff’s enthusiasm and joy at meeting this iconic player.
Thank you to everyone for making him feel very welcome.
The World Cup Fever is officially in and around Newport. We have organised a series of Dance
Workshops to take place next week. The workshops are linked with our Cultural Identity Unit and the children will partake in learning the different dances from around the world.
This is an extremely exciting time for both the children and staff and I cannot wait to see them participate.
The Pirates of the Curry Bean, Newport School’s very own Musical is taking place on the 16th and 17th June, 6.00 – 8.00, at Connaught School.
Tickets are on sale at the start and the end of each day, in the school playground.
As you are aware, performing in front of an audience can be a daunting experience, in order for the children to feel at ease, it is important that they see familiar faces, I would like to therefore urge you to come along and support the children of Newport by attending this event.
Finally, next week is non statutory assessment week and some of the children will be partaking in these.
Please continue to support the children during this period as these hold just as much value as the statutory assessments.
I wish you all a safe and warm weekend.
